I love making my own foaming hand soap! This DIY Thieves Foaming Hand Soap is super inexpensive, easy to make, and smells amazing. Literally, it smells like all the wonderful spicy Christmas smells. Ditch the toxins and fragrances found in store-bought soap and save money by making your own Thieves Foaming Hand Soap!

Since before having kids, we have tried hard to limit the toxins in our home. It’s not always easy, since any commercial hand soap, cleaning product, shampoo/conditioner, etc. is loaded with harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances. Since learning how to make this DIY Thieves Foaming Hand Soap, I haven’t had to worry about what we are putting on our skin and into our bodies every time we wash our hands.

We have tried multiple brands of the more natural products on the market. Recently we have been loving Young Living’s Thieves collection of cleaning products. The hand soap is luxurious and smells amazing, but it is definitely on the expensive side. I decided to invest in a bottle of Thieves essential oil, which can make more than 16 bottles of Thieves homemade foaming hand soap (and can be used for many other things as well!).

what is thieves?

Thieves essential oil is a legendary blend of essential oils, Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus radiate and Rosemary. Thieves is known for immune support and cleansing properties, making it a great option for hand soap. With this time of year being flu season, I am definitely loving the extra immune support we’re getting from using this powerful essential oil blend. Plus, we’re saving so much money by making our own hand soap!

what you’ll need to make diy thieves foaming hand soap –

  • Foaming soap dispenser – I ordered this 3 pack so I could have an 8 oz bottle of this soap by every sink. One of my favorite things about using a foaming dispenser is that it uses much less soap than regular hand soap pumps.
  • Liquid Castile soap – Dr. Bronners Unscented is my favorite option so I can add my own blend of essential oils for scent.
  • Thieves essential oil
  • Filtered water or distilled water

how to make thieves foaming hand soap –

To make this soap, measure 4 T of liquid Castile soap and pour into the foaming hand soap dispenser. Drop in 15 drops of Thieves essential oil, and give it a little swirl to mix it up. Then, fill the bottle the rest of the way with filtered or distilled water. Just leave enough room at the top so the pump mechanism doesn’t displace any soap and make a mess. Literally that’s it! So easy!!

benefits of making your own diy thieves hand soap –

Making DIY Thieves Foaming Hand Soap is so much cheaper than buying Thieves foaming hand soap from Young Living. Currently, one bottle of Thieves foaming hand soap costs $16 plus shipping. I love Young Living products, but that is a lot to spend on one bottle of soap, especially because we use a lot of hand soap at our house. I broke down the cost to make one bottle using this recipe:

So once you have the foaming soap dispenser, each bottle of hand soap only costs $3.42!

It is a safe option for the whole family and an easy swap to avoid toxic ingredients in store-bought hand soap.

It is SO easy to make!

One of my favorite things about using a foaming dispenser is that it uses much less soap than regular hand soap pumps. With 3 little boys in our family, we wash our hands a lot. I feel like the soap is always running out! Just by keeping some liquid Castile soap and Thieves essential oil on hand, I can refill the soap dispenser in under a minute.

Using a refillable foaming pump helps reduce waste! These foaming hand soap bottles can be filled over and over again instead of buying a new bottle every time you run out.

The essential oil blend possibilities are endless! You can use other essential oils to make your soap smell however you like. In the spring and summer I love to use citrus oils for a fresh and clean smell! Lavender is always a lovely option too.

vitamin e oil or aloe vera

Someone people find liquid castile soap to be a little drying for their hands. To prevent your hands from drying out while using this soap, you can add 8 drops of vitamin e oil or 1 Tablespoon of aloe vera gel. This will help to hydrate your skin. I almost always skip this step just for simplicity’s sake, but I have done it this way too. I really like the outcome either way!

why young living?

I choose Young Living essential oils because they are noticeably higher quality than other essential oils I’ve used. I have tried this same diy foaming hand soap recipe with other brands, and I find that the smell of the Thieves oil blend stays on my hands much longer after washing. Overall, it seems like the essential oils from Young Living are a much higher quality and potency.

There are so many essential oils on the market, it’s hard to know which ones are best. I also prefer Young Living essential oils because of their Seed to Seal quality commitment. However, there are many high quality oils on the market that will also do the trick! Please just stay away from grocery store oils. They are almost never pure essential oils. Keep in mind that whenever there’s a massive price difference, there’s usually a reason.

That being said, I totally understand that Young Living products are expensive! If the Thieves oil blend is out of reach for you financially, I would 100% recommend Germ Fighter from Plant Therapy. I have used this oil as well and it’s definitely comparable to Thieves.

If you’re interested in other Thieves products from YL, you can find a whole lineup of Thieves cleaner, dish soap, laundry soap, etc. in this awesome Thieves Home Bundle! This bundle has everything you need to replace common household cleaners with a healthy, non-toxic option if you’re looking to go the natural way. These Thieves cleaners are some of our favorite products, and having this bundle at a discounted rate makes them much more affordable. Or you can grab the Thieves Premium Starter Kit which has some different options, but still at a discounted rate. Both of these Thieves bundles automatically make you a Young Living member, meaning you get 24% off of all of their products for an entire year!
